The Linenhall was built in 1790.  It is situated on the street that takes its name from the building.  Originally used as a linen house for the linen trade in County Mayo, it is now an arts centre, coffee shop, and houses the Castlebar tourist office.

The linen business was an important industry for the county town and it is here that the linen was graded, sorted and packed.  In 1798, General Humbert held his victory ball here following the conquest of the British in August of that year by the combined forces of the French and Irish in a ferocious battle that became known as "The Races Of Castlebar".

Today The Linenhall is recognised as one of the leading arts centres in the West of Ireland.  There are concerts and exhibitions held here throughout the year as well as many workshops in its community arts room.

The building has been recently renovated in keeping with the architecture of the time and the windows are in the process of being replaced.
