Belmont House built c.1790 is one of the finest Georgian houses in Boyle. In close proximity to what was then Boyle Police Barracks on the Sligo Road, it holds a spectacular position overlooking the ruined Boyle Abbey.
In 1840, Belmont was the residence of James Davis Esq. Chief of Police and was valued at £28 10s.
In 1857, at the time of Griffith's Valuation, Belmont [GV6a] it was valued at £23 10s and the residence of James Davis Esq Sub-Inspector Royal Irish Constabulary. who also held land at Warren & Drum. James & Maria Davis were baptising in Boyle Church of Ireland from 1826. In 1832, their address was at Deerpark Boyle. Mrs Maria Davis died at Belmont Feb 28, 1864:
February 28, after a few days’ illness in the prime of her life, Maris, the beloved and affectionate wife of James Davis Esq, Sub-Inspector of Constabulary, Boyle. She was a fond and Indulgent mother and will be long remembered by a large circle of friends, to whom she was endeared, and the poor have lost In her a kind and charitable benefactress. [The Evening Freeman. - 4 March 1864 ]
In 1867 it was the residence of Henry Butler Lynch Esq. S.I. Royal Irish Constabulary.
At the turn of the century, the District Inspector resident at Belmont was Thomas Lucas McClelland.
