Early in 1854, William Cronin, aged 19 son of John Cronin and Abigail Folley, emigrated to Canada from County Cork, Irleand, following his three older brothers Michael, Timothy, and John. The elder three worked in the Guelph area and upon
learning of land in the Queen's Bush, Timothy and John together with William came to Bruce County, selected lots and attended the Great Land Sales at Southampton on September 29 1854. Timothy and John purchased lots in Culross but William
bought both Lot 12, Concession A, Carrick and Lot 12, Concession A, Culross, paying 3 pounds and 15 shillings down payment on each. He proceeded to clear the land, firstly in Carrick, and subsequently built a log house 20 X 26 feet together with a barn and stable.

On December 26, 1858, William Cronin was married in the original log church of Immaculate Conception in Formosa, to Mary Kelly, whose parents, Thomas and Ellen Kelly from County Clare, Ireland had settled on adjacent lots 13 and 14 , Concessions A Carrick.

The Cronins and Kellys later became two of the founding families of Sacred Heart Church when it was built in Teeswater, Ontario. William worked the farm and met all the conditions of purchase, i.e. sufficient land cleared and building erected; he paid $150.00 and on August 22 1870, received a Crown Patent for Lot 12 in Carrick.
