Timothy immigrated due to poor health. He and his brother Matthew arrived in Australia in 1882 by the sailing ship Edderside. He first worked at Bright and Hitchock Pty Ltd in Geelong, Victoria. Then took up partnership in a Drapery Store in Kilmore, Victoria with a friend Mr Rush. Which continued until 1889 when he went to Bairnsdale, Victoria with his brother to establish a well known store O’Byrne Bros.
