Thomas was born in Sessiagh, Donegal and worked as a farmer. He married Margaret Ann Crawford on 21 Novemeber 1861at the Presbyterian Church, Stralolar District. Their first born, Isabella was born circa 1862 (No records available) They had twin girls Margaret and Elizabeth in 1864 and were baptised in Donoghmore 10th January. Later they had another girl, Jane Virtue on 6th Sept 1865 who was again baptised at Donoghmore on 15th October. In 1867 Diana Virtue was born 5 May and baptised 14th July. Another female child was born later on 10 August 1872 named Marion. Sometime between 1872 and 1831 the family moved to Londonderry where Elizabeth and Bella died between 1881and 1885.
