I am trying to confirm that my gg grandfather Thomas Morgan is from either Dunlavin parish or Avoca parish in County Wicklow. Family tradition holds that Thomas was the son of William Morgan, who was born and died in Ireland (1806-1878, not confirmed). Thomas also had brothers named William, Michael and James, but nothing is known of them.

Thomas Morgan emigrated to Whitehaven England (where he married Margaret Quigley on 25 Sep 1871) and then emigrated to the U.S. in 1882 or 1883. He died in Pennsylvania in 1930. His gravestone lists his birth date as 1848, but in the 1900 U.S. Census he is listed as having been born in March 1851. Thomas' death certificate lists his father as William Morgan and his mother as Mary "Staufort" (which may be an incorrect understanding of "Stafford") and the death certificate informant was from my g grandfather so I would tentatively presume that information is correct.

I found two potential Thomas Morgan County Wicklow candidates from RootsIreland:

*Birth date 29 Mar 1852 in Dunlavin, parents listed as William Morgan and Mary, sponsor #1 was James Morgan and sponsor #2 was Anne Fitzpatrick

*Birth date 11 Mar 1849 in Avoca, parents listed as William Morgan and Mary, sponsor #1 was Patrick Dempsey and sponsor #2 was Catherine Stafford

The second listing's sponsor Catherine Stafford may suggest this is the correct listing given the name of the mother on Thomas' death certificate, BUT a death record for a William Morgan in Dunlavin, also from RootsIreland, shows a birth date of 27 Dec 1809, also in Dunlavin. This is apparently the only William Morgan born in Co. Wicklow relatively close to 1806, so perhaps that points to the first record being the correct one for Thomas.
