I am searching for a location in Galway for my 2x great grandfather Thomas J. Welch, born approximately 1831. He left Ireland for America in 1848 and settled in Bridgewater, Oneida county, in central New York state, where he was a farmer. His mother was Mary Welch, born 1795. I do not have a maiden name for her, nor do I have a name for Thomas' father. Thomas had a brother Luke, born 1838 in Galway, and a sister Winifred. He was married to Jane Fitzsimmons (or Simmons) Welch. On some census in America, he is listed as Walsh. I have been trying for a long time to locate Mary, Thomas, Luke and Winfred at a specific location in Galway, but have not been successful. I suspect they might have been from East Galway, but that is speculation based on DNA matches with others with ancestors from that area. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
