In May of 1845 Thomas Finan 19, along with his twin sisters, Susan and Ellen 21 took a ship from Liverpool to Boston. In the summer of 1849 he married Nancy Dwyer, just over from Liverpool. I am fairly certain they all wee from east Galway. Shortly after their marriage Thomas left a pregnant Nancy and took a clipper ship around the "Horn" to California and the goldfields. As far as I know, he was not.a miner but a peddler, and did well. He tried for six years to get Nancy and the baby to come to Calif., but, I think, after surviving east Galway in the 1840s, she was not leaving the safety of Boston. After 6 years Thomas returned to Boston.
