My 3rd great-grandmother Naphy Fahy was born on May 5, 1826 per her headstone. Her obituary states she was born in "County Galloway, Ireland" which it's fair to assume is simply a misspelling my an American editor rather than a reference to a Scottish origin. Her unusual name may have been an abbreviation; I have found some references to "Naphy" as an abbreviation for Penelope or Eleanor. Searches of Irish Catholic birth and baptismal records have not shown anyone by the name of "Naphy" in the timeframe however there was a baptism of an "Ellenor Fahy" in Loughrea, County Galway on July 24, 1826 which roughly fits the time frame and would make sense if the Fahy's were very rural. If this Ellenor Fahy is indeed the same person, then her parents would be Martin Fahy Sr. and Winifred Ractun. Also assuming that her given name was some version of "Eleanor", it is possible that her arrival is documented in New York City immigration lists as occuring on March 1, 1849 which would be consistent with a move motivated by the Great Hunger.

Her obituary tells the odd story of her death, returning home from a visit to a family friend in late October, 1901, one of the carriage horses became frightened and gave her a shock. Per her obituary "The sudden shock affected her heart and it is believed that her death was due to this cause." Perhaps due to her son John Jospeh Hanley being a priest of some import in northeast Iowa, her funeral service was conducted by a team of 20 priests, including her son.

Unfortunately this is all that I know about her. I lack definitive information regarding her origin point, parents, siblings, and other family information, especially prior to her arrival in America.
