Michael Nowland was born around 1855-1865 somewhere in Ireland I believe. The name Nowland might be a derivative of O'Nolan from the Clan O'Nuallain founded in the 10th Century from County Carlow.
Michael was tried in the Old Bailey on Wednesday 26th February 1783 for stealing a horse and bridle and subsequently sent to Australia as a Convict on the Scarborough in the 2nd Fleet.
Pretty good records are available from The Old Bailey downwards but I do not have anything as to his birth, parents, age, etc. I thought that by posting his name on XO some news might come to light that could trace him in his earlier days.
