Michael Markey was born around 1836 (he didn't know his birthdate) and lived in Co Louth (according to census records, obituaries and death certificate). His death certificate says his mothers name is Mary Dowden. I don't know if his daughter had that right. Michael emigrated to the USA in 1860's ('61, '63 and '68 are listed on different documents and records. He was in his late twenties at the time. He arrived in Madison County, Iowa where he met and married a local girl named Elvira Fudge. They lived the rest of their lives in Iowa and raised 7 children. Unfortunately, I have no info on Michael before he arrived in Iowa- other than what is stated above. I don't know any names of towns or parishes in Ireland, no point of exit in Ireland or entry into the US. I don't know where he lived for the 2-4 years before he came to Iowa. I don't know his parents names- Maybe Mary Dowden Markey... I don't know about any siblings or extended family. I know the genetics are strong in the male Markeys here in the US. Michaels sons, grandsons, great grandsons and even great-great grandsons are practically carbon copies of Michael. I would love to learn more about Michael and his family! Thank you for any assistance you can provide!
