Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in USA
Family story: Michael Folan/Foley, born 1831 in “Clifden.” His parents were reportedly John Folan/Foley & Margaret Fox Folan/Foley. John and two of his sons drowned in Galway Bay in Spring 1861. Michael was also on the boat but was able to swim to shore and was the only survivor. Michael immigrated to America in around 1862. He worked as a “sailor” in New York for a couple of years, moved to the mines of Pennsylvania (Mahanoy City area). He married Margaret McNally there in 1865 (?). After moving a couple more times they ended up in Plymouth County Iowa. Michael died there in 1906.
Ydna from Michael’s great-grandson shows Folan for a few generations but further back shows Conroy and King DNA rather than Folan.
