Maurice was born in Clash, Kilquane, Kerry on Feb 11 1821 to Hugh O'Connor and Johanna Fitzgerald. Maurice married Feb 22 1846 in Ballyferriter RC Parish to Catherine Martin of Garrane, Kilmekchidar, Kerry. They had one child born in Kerry, Hugh O'Connor Oct 26, 1846. In 1847 Catherine's whole family planned to emmigrate to the U.S. Marurice and Catherine decided to go with them. Maurice left first and arrived in the U.S. fall of 1847 and published an In Search of Minning person ad int the Boston Globe Nov of 1847 searching for Catherine and her siblings who should have sailed summer of 1847 for Upper Canada, who he was separated from her due to the "Adversities of Fortune" and left an address to reach him. He ust have found her by summer 1848 as his son John was born Jun 17, 1849  along the path of the RR track Maurice was laying for the Vermont Massachusettes Railroad which terminated in Brattleboro Vt. When the RR terminated c 1848 Maurice tried a shot stint at farming in Wardsboro Mass but by 1850 he was living in Brattleboro till his deach Oct 20, 1898. In 1850 Maruice was back working for the RR but this time as a brakeman. Maruice lived long enough to see his grandson John O'Connor to to medical school at the University of Vermont and graduate the summer of 1898 a few months before Maurice's death.
