Maurice Fisher Scott was born in Londonderry on Jan 6. 1880, the 7th of 12 children born to George John Scott (Naas) and Sarah Elizabeth (Maxwell) Scott (Londonderry). He studied at the University of Glasgow where he certified as a mechanical engineer in 1901. He moved to Canada circa 1912, and married Bessie Allison of Glasgow in Toronto, Ontario on September 12, 1912, and they had two sons. During WWI, he served in the Royal Navy on "HMS Niobe".
He enjoyed a lengthy career in engineering in Canada, with Canada Steamship Lines and Canadian railways.
