Migrated to/Born in Australia

Mary (nee Gallivan) Finn, a dairy maid from Castlegregory, in Co. Kerry is a paternal great-great-great-grandmother of movie star Nicole Kidman (who has several lines of Irish roots).

In late 1838, Mary left her home village with her three young children (John, Patrick and Julia – all under the age of 10) and travelled to Australia (as a free-settler) aboard the SS Susan, arriving in Sydney on 10 March 1839.

Five years after Mary's death, her son John died in North Sydney in 1889. At that time he was residing in the suburb of Randwick, not far from where Nicole Kidman attended school.

In 1991, Nicole Kidman returned to her ancestral County Kerry for the shooting of the movie Far and Away (1992).
