Mary Moore was baptized 8 June 1840 in Drom parish, Co. Tipperary, the third child of Robert Moore and Ellen (Nelly) Carroll. Sponsors were John Bohan and Judy Carroll. Her brother James was baptized in Drom parish 16 August 1836 (sponsors Patt Carroll and Mary Carroll) and sister Ally/Anne on 3 June 1838, Drom parish (sponsors John and Nano Bohan).  A fourth child Timothy was baptized in Loughmore parish 12 December 1841 (sponsors William Gleeson and Margt Cormick).

Census records state Mary and her older brother James arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1856. There is no evidence that their two siblings or parents accompanied them. Mary married Denis James Manning, son of Jeremiah Manning and Mary Lynch (both from Co. Cork), on 1 May1867 at St.John the Baptist Church, New Orleans. Mary's husband Denis died 1 February 1880, leaving her to raise five children: James Thomas, Mary Alice, Katherine Clair, Denis James Jr., and Genevieve Loretta. In census records and city directories she is listed as a dressmaker.

Mary Moore Manning died in New Orleans on 29 January 1926.  Her funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, followed by burial in St.Joseph's Cemetery.
