My gg grandfather Laurence John KAVANAGH arrived in Sydney New South Wales circa 1857.

Laurence was born abt 1833 in Killballyowen Ferns County to parents Jeremiah (Darby) Kavanagh and Mary Blake. He died in Sydney in 1874

His older brother was the Rev James Blake Kavanagh DD was born 1821

Laurence married Margaret Mary GOLDEN in St Mary's Cathedral Sydney 1864.

They had four children Mary May 1865 ; Catherine Veronica 1867 ; James Michael 1869 ; Minnie Sarah Jane 1870

This is a long long shot in the dark, so please bare with me while I go the long way around to ask if you have done a DNA test anywhere? I have I think two lilligitimate births between 1847 and 1877 (the second being my paternal grandfather) in Whitechapel, London. His mother being part of my other Irish (Cork) heritage on my Father's side of the family. To cut a long story short, I did Y line DNA test and ended up with the closest contacts being "Kavanaghs" from Wicklow and Wexford and our best guess 1750 as a so far unidentified (unidentifable) common ancestor.

So have you done a DNA test somewhere, are you on GedMatch? Obviously I am looking for potential Kavanagh matches in Wicklow/Wexford circa 1830.

I have had my dna tested with Ancestry and also uploaded to My Heritage. However, I have not been actively researching my maternal lineage - have been concentrating on my paternal line, so far

Hi Marcia,

I found you on Ancestry and regrefully we do not DNA match, which is a pity but a big thank you for trying to help me.

I see you are in Victoria, I have been to Melbourne a number of times on vacation and business. We drove across the state in both directions in 2008 (over bought fruit that we had to eat up as we could not take it in to SA.) I have a cousin in Adelaide and a great great grandfather (a revelation indeed) buried in Harrow, Vic.

Please check peoples DNA Gedmatch numbers rather than just accepting the dna from ancestry at an 8cM minimum and a myheritage at a 7cM minimum...
If you add a 3 in the field it will take it to the minimal of 3cM, and although that is open to many many other people, if you are following the Kav lines, it should help you identify your DNA matchs in which you can find kavs in their tree and see it they might pertain to you.
FYI mine is SQ2767160.
