John is the patriarch of this Murphy Clan, married to Christian McAuley. They had five known children who immigrated to Canada, although there may be as many as 9 children born to the couple. John does not appear to have owned property in Carrickfergus, but a lease a piece of land where he was a flax grower.
The five children who emigrated to Canada were Alexander McAuley (1791-1876), Margaret Lois (1796-1868), Samuel (1800-1838), John (1804-1869) and Davis 1810 to 1848). Samuel died at sea on the east coast of Nova Scotia near Shelbourne. Margaret Lois and Davis are not known to have married, hence no progeny from these siblings.
Aleander McAuley married Jane Allen in 1817 and arrived in Montreal in 1819 where they raised 3 sons and 5 daughters. He was a merchant of fine linens. It is not known when John arrived in Canada, the earliest mention of his arrival was his marriage to Christian McKenzie, a native of County Down (1812-1902), married in 842. They had 3 sons and one daughter.
The known descendants of John Murphy and Christian McAuley established themselves in Quebe, Ontario and in the USA. Any information pertaining to these families would be welcome.
