John McIntyre was born in Pullagh, County Sligo, in about 1845. He immigrated to Massachusetts, USA in about 1860, living briefly in Marlborough before settling in Clinton, Massachusetts where he was naturalized in 1867.
Also in 1867 he married Ellen Connaughton (believed to be from County Galway). They had 8 children in Clinton before John died in 1885 at the age of only about 40.
According to US records, his parents were Patrick and Mary. Patrick was on the 1827 tithe applotment book for Pullagh, and Mary was there on the 1855 Griffith’s valuation. Their property was adjacent to several O’Connors, so Mary’s maiden name might be O’Connor although there are also DNA matches tracing back to the Stenson, Durkan, Feeley, and Cahill families in Achonry parish so she could be from one of those families.
