The 1871 census of New Brunswick shows Jane Cook of Reformed Presbyterian religion, Scotch origin and unable to read or write. This census identifies Jane's husband John as a weaver and does not say he could not read or write suggesting he likely could. His religion and ethnic origin are reported as the same as Jane's. The 1861 census identified him as a weaver and farmer. The 1851 census said John arrived in the colony in 1840 and that Jane and the two eldest children arrived in 1842 while the youngest 3 children were born in New Brunswick. I have not yet found anything to indicate John's county of origin in Ireland although it is likely to be Antrim or a neighbouring one.
