James was born in Ireland in 1765 and had a son, James, "from one relationship" in 1795.The son James married Jane Flemming (possibly Fraser) in 1818.  They had on son George born in 1836 in Wicklow, County Wicklow, Ireland. James arrived in Ontario Canada in 1832 (?) and died in Canada in 1852. George married Amelia Jackson born 1835 Wicklow, Wicklow County.

  • This is very interesting. I am a descendant of George McFadden and Amelia Jackson. I and many of their descendants live in the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada area.

We believe that George McFadden's mother was Jane Fraser McFadden (1796-1876). We have never been able to determine Jane's husband's name. Our information was that she was a widow when she came to Canada in the 1840s with her four children: Jane, Margaret, Mary, and George. It was in Canada that George McFadden (c1835-1904) married Amelia Jackson (1836-1916); they raised a family of 11 children.

Jane Fraser McFadden, age 75, is recorded in the 1871 Canadian Census living in Navan, Ontario, Canada with her son George McFadden and his wife Amelia. The three of them are buried in a local cemetery along with many other McFadden descendants.

I would like to learn more about James McFadden. As I mentioned, our family has not heard this name of James ,nor that he came to Canada and died in Canada. We understood that he had died before his widow emigrated.

  • Hi! My name is Pat Mcfadden and I live in Ottawa as well although I was born in Sudbury. I assume you live in Navan. I have been to the cemetery. My relatives came from Oxbow Saskatchewan via Navan and the USA. George was my great great grandfather. His son Jack John was my Great grand father and his son John Francis "Frank" Mcfadden was my grandfather and his son Jack was my dad. James McFadden (born 1765 in Ireland) apparently had a son also named James out of wedlock in 1795. The father James died in County Armagh Ireland in 1824. The son James married on Nov 24,1818 Jane Fleming (possibly Fraser) who herself was born in 1796 in Ireland. They married in Kircubinn, Down, Northern Ireland. It gets a bit confusing here but I think James arrived in Ontario before Jane and died in Kent ontario around 1852 but not sure on that. Jane appears to have arrived with George via New York around 1850 and came to the Navan area. George married Amelia Jackson who was born January 1835 Wicklow, Wicklow Cty, Ireland. She was 18 when they married and had 14 children in 29 years. That's about all I know. If you have additional info please email me at patjmcfadden@gmail.com.
