James and Mary Margaret McGowen (born 1825 Sligo) married in 1853 at St Patrick's Church in Watertown, New York. James and Mary had 5 children born in Watertown - Mary Elizabeth, Edward Francis, Margaret Frances, Nellie. They moved the family to Oakland, CA in1864 and added 3 more children - Annie, Thomas, Jennie to the family. Mary died in Oaklnd, CA in 1896. James died in Oakland, CA in 1901.
