Looking for my CAWLEY family ancestors from Sligo
The 1881 UK census shows 19 year old James Cawley my great grandfather date of birth around 1862 living as a lodger at 29 Pollard Street, Blackburn, Lancashire with a Patrick Cawley aged 26 and most likely a relative. Both show place of birth as Sligo, Ireland. James’s occupation is recorded a Cotton Carder, Patrick’s as Quarryman. It would appear that James returned to Ireland to marry Ann Kennedy as there is no record of their marriage in the UK.
The first confirmed record is the 1891 UK Census showing James, aged 29, occupation, general labourer, from Sligo living with his wife Ann (nee Kennedy) warehouse woman, also from Sligo, date of birth approx 1858 and three children: James (born 27/12/1882) Patrick (born Dec qtr 1886) and Thomas (born Dec qtr 1890). Ann is thought to have been baptized on the 15/06/1858 at the Catholic parish in Kilmactigue Sligo and her parents to be Tom Kennedy and Mary McVey.(to be confirmed)
I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any further information on my Cawley family from Sligo
Elizabeth
