Migrated to/Born in USA
Hugh Darcy was born in Gowly townland (probably), Kiltubrid parish, County Leitrim on 2 February 1835. His parents were Hugh Darcey and Sarah. He and his siblings Edward, John and Sarah Jane Darcy emigrated to America in the late 1840s and early 1850s, probably as a result of the famine. There is no record of the parents emigrating and they most likely died during the famine. There were probably other siblings in the family also who most likely died during the famine. Hugh died in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota, USA on 25 October 1896. The Darcy family would have attended mass at St. Brigid's RC church in Drumcong.
