Frank Winters was the blue eyed son of Robert (1838-1888) and Bridget “Biddy” (McBride) Winters (1842-1915) and the sixth of their seven children. The Winters lived in Castlederg - Spamount, County Tyrone (population about 700 in 1871). Frank was born April 19, 1874 but he is not sure of his exact birthdate. Sometimes he lists 1877 on documents. Two brothers (John (1864-1875) and William (1868-1875)) passed away as children in 1875 and two sisters (Mary Anne (1869-19??) and Lizzy (1871-1903)) stay in Ireland with their mother and younger brother William John (1877-19??) after their father died in 1888. His older brother Michael (1866-1939) moved to Massachusetts around 1890 and married Bridget “Biddy” Boyle in 1895.
Frank is a widower when he arrives in the USA with his five year old son Robert John Winters (1903 -1970). His Scottish wife, Rose Ann Doherty died in 1908. Frank lived in Glasgow, Scotland since about 1898, working for his father-in-law as a “firewood sawyer.” The two immigrated to Boston aboard the steamer Laurentian in May 1909 and made their way to Andover where Frank’s older brother Michael Winters (1866-1939) lived and could get him a job at the Tyer Rubber plant. Michael and Frank were the only two siblings to immigrate to America.
