Ellen Webb born Coolkelure to Elizabeth Webb in 1902. Baptised as Ellen Crowley in 1905 at St Patrick Church Dunmanway to Eliza Webb and John Crowley who was a cattle dealer.
On the 1911 census she is living with her family in Ballymodan (Bandon) Co Cork.
Ellen was a Domestic Servant when she was older, and went to work at Castle Bernard the home of the Earl of Bandon.
In 1921 the IRA came to the castle to kidnap the Earl and his wife. The castle was burnt down by the IRA. My Grandmother told my mother that it was her who had told the Earl that this was going to happen and they managed to escape. However they were later kidnapped. Whether this part of the story is true I will never know.
After this had happened my Grandmother left Ireland and came to the U.K to work as a Domestic Servant in Essex.
Because of her training she was the most tidiest person, and every bit of linen and clothing etc. had it's rightful place.
