According to her obituary, Ellen was born in Clonaslee. I have found a Baptism record for Ellen Howard in Rosenallis but can not confirm if it is my Ellen. At some point she left Ireland for Liverpool. She married James Holahan around 1858, possibly in England, and gave birth to three children, only one of whom survived. George Richard Holahan was said to have been born in Manchester around 1859, although no record of his birth/baptism can be found. James immigrated to NY in 1866, with Ellen and George following in 1868. They settled in Brooklyn, New York where James was a stone mason. George became a policeman and eventually rose to the position of Chief Inspector.
