  • Hoping someone may be able to assist me. For the past 8 years I have been researching my great-great grandfather, Edward Walsh. Unfortunately; there has been no immediate family members that have been able to share any information. I have discovered it through U.S. Census, marriage and death certificates and Catholic Church records in Scranton Pennsylvania. But; I still have not been able to determine exactly where Edward came from and I am only assuming it was County Mayo based on research of the Walsh surname being so prevalent in this county. I have been unable to locate a ship manifest in order to confirm the exact year of immigration into Scranton Pennsylvania. I was able to confirm that his wife, Mary Farrington immigrated to the U.S. in 1872 per the 1900 U.S. Census. That particular census also indicates Mary a widow and having given birth to 5 children, with only 4 being alive in 1900. Edward's marriage certificate indicates they married on Sept 12, 1872 the same year Mary indicated she immigrated to the U.S. An 1894 Death Certificate was issued in Scranton Pennsylvania for an Edward Walsh but I am not 100% certain that this is the same Edward. The Walsh name is very prevalent in Scranton Pennsylvania. Many Edward, Mary, Catherine, etc are buried in the Catholic cemetaries in Scranton. Thanking anyone in advance for their advice or recommendations.
