When Catherine O'MALLEY MEALY was born on 31 May 1819 in Galway, her father, John Mealy, was about 24yrs old, and her mother, Bridget Mealy, was about 19yrs old. She married Dominick O’MALLEY MEALY from Co Mayo about 1840-41 in Co Mayo - his father's name was also John & his mother may have been Mary (naming pattern). They must have shown their marriage and birth certificates to board the Samuel Boddington ship as bounty immigrants to Australia; they had to show these as character references. They sailed from Cork in 1841 and arrived in Williamtown Victoria in January 1842. They had 12 children over 19 years in various locations like Newtown in VIc, Portland & Bendigo. They are both mentioned in various newspaper articles for various reasons & most were not good. Alcohol was a problem for both of them. Catherine died (after Dominick) on 20 May 1903 in Grenfell, New South Wales, having lived a long life of 83 years.
