Catherine Magner (or Mangner or Magnier) 1827
Back to ListCatherine Magner (or Mangner as it was spelled in the US or Magnier as it was spelled on her baptismal certificate) was born in County Waterford in August, 1827 to John Magner/Mangner/Magnier and Ellen Power. She was baptised on August 15, 1827 in Portlaw, County Waterford. She emigrated to the United States at some point before 1853 when her first child was born in New Hampshire and she had married Michael O'Connor (a native of County Galway). She appears in the US Census in Table Mound Township, Dubuque, Iowa in 1860, 1880, and the Iowa State Census in 1895. She died in June, 1899 after a cut on her hand from some broken glass became infected.
Catherine's parents also emigrated to America later in life and are interred under an imposing gravestone in rural Jefferson Township, Houston County, Minnesota in the cemetery of a since-demolished Catholic Church. I know a great deal about her family and their lives in America but very little about the family in Ireland as I have a number of indications that not all of the immediate family emigrated.
