Catherine Kelly was born to William Kelly and Ally Tobin in September 1817. Church records show that she was born near Kilmurry, Slieverue, County Kilkenny.
On 8 February 1840 she married Martin Gleeson at the Sacred Heart Church in Ferrybank, County Kilkenny. They had four children: Alice, Thomas, William, and Catherine.
Martin Gleason died an accidental death in a grudge rugby match about 1849. Shortly thereafter due to her husband's death and the famine Catherine and her four children emigrated to America.
The family first settled in Wisconsin, later moving to Peoria County, Illinois in the early 1850's. About 1854 Catherine married a widower from Ireland, Dennis Doran. Dennis and Catherine had two daughters, Elizabeth and Ellen.
Catherine Kelly Gleason Doran died on 19 November 1910 in Peoria, Illinois. She is buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Peoria, Illinois next to her daughters Elizabeth and Ellen.
