  • Hi.  We share a common ancestor.  Catherine Bridget Birmingham was the daughter of Michael and Kate Boyle.  Michael was brother to Patrick Birmingham who is my ancestor and also travelled to NZ.  I only knew her as Biddy so Im so glad you put in the other details so I could match her up. I have been investigating the Birmingham family and would love to get in contact.

    regards

  • Hi. I am researching Bridget Mary Birmingham from Carrabane Castlegar Galway. I believe that your Catherine (Kate) Birmingham maybe her cousin. My Bridget's parents were Patrick and Bridget (Biddy) nee Casserly. Patrick had a brother Michael.

Bridget was baptised in 1845 Castlegar Parish. Her sponsers were Michael Birmingham and Mary Glynn.

Bridget arrived at Lyttleton NZ on 5th May 1877 aged 19, on board 'The  Waikato'. Passenger manifest shows she travelled with a Annie Birmingham (Armagh) and a Cella (Celia?) Boyle Galway.

She married John King at Oamaru. Her residence is shown as All Day Bay Kakanui. His was Kurow.

Does anyone recognise any of these names?

  • Hello Jeanine

Thanks so much for making contact. My email is ainge.n@xtra.co.nz

I am on Ancestry and have a family tree  of the New Zealand descendants of Catherine Bridgit BIRMINGHAM. She came to Bluff on the "New Great Britain" on 10 August 1863. I cannot find a shipping list.

    With warm regards Nanette

  • Hi Proodledee

Yes, I am related by a DNA match to your Bridget.  Her father Patrick is brother to Thomas Birmingham, who is my line ancestor.  I have found there are a few of them but the records stop at 1825 ish so I can't confirm further back.  Such a shame.

I see you are on Ancestry - I have been working with two other ladies on these ancestors that we share.  One of them lives in Oamaru now.  You are welcome to see what we have discovered together.  Mine is under Mahony Family Tree.

    regards

    Jeanine
