Migrated to /Born in Canada
My maternal grandmother was born to James Gray, Sgt. Connaught Rangers (HQ Renmore, Galway) and Elizabeth Jane Hannah born 1866 Scariff. They were married in 1886 in Ennis. My grandmother Annie Elizabeth was born in Cambridge Barracks on Portsea Island in the south of England. James Gray died at the age of 29 in Renmore Barracks Jan 1891. My great grandmother, widowed, age 25, left Ireland with Annie Elizabeth age 3yrs 9mons and Velma Jane age 1yr 9mons, in Oct 1891, I believe to an arranged marriage in what was to be the Canadian province of Manitoba. Another Irish story. She married William Norman Melrose and homesteaded at Maymont, Saskatchewan, bore 7 children and lost 2. Dhe died in 1968 at the age of 80.
